Restored bird’s eye view of the Quicksilver Mines in New Almaden near San Jose, California, circa 1852 from an original watercolor painting attributed to Harrison Eastman.  The New Almaden quicksilver (mercury) mine is the oldest and most productive quicksilver mine in the U.S., and the first of any mine in California.
